About

A lawyer who argues, writes and builds people.

I am a Nigerian lawyer based in Lagos, Senior Associate at Oake Legal, where I lead the disputes and arbitration practice team. My work runs from ad hoc and institutional arbitration across West and East Africa to commercial litigation, capital markets issuances, private equity transactions and restructuring.

The story

I studied law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) and distinctions in Torts, Evidence & Procedure, Commercial Law and Arbitration. Alongside the books I led — as President of a 1,300-member Law Students Association, as Director of Research and Criminal Litigation in Zenith Chambers, and as the youngest member of the Students' Union House of Representatives.

After the Nigerian Law School in Kano, I began practice at Oluwakemi Balogun LP on insolvency and commercial disputes, working on bank recovery and guarantee enforcement claims running into billions of naira. Since January 2021 I have been at Oake Legal, where the work is broader: UNCITRAL arbitrations across three jurisdictions, LCIA proceedings, jurisdictional battles at the Federal High Court, bond and commercial paper programmes, and private equity investments.

Away from files, I write about law, finance and artificial intelligence, coordinate the prayer ministry of a 1,000+ member church, and support initiatives on menstrual health, visual storytelling and rural outreach. I play the piano, and I am endlessly curious about where AI takes professional work next.
